D.O.’s are Osteopathic Physicians fully trained and licensed to practice all phases of medicine.  They are complete doctors who offer their patients something extra.  D.O.’s use all the tools of modern medicine to detect and treat disease.  They are also trained to perform osteopathic manipulation, a technique in which Osteopathic Physicians use their hands to diagnose illness and treat patients, giving particular attention to joints, bones, muscles, and nerves.  The result of this manipulation improves circulation, which creates a normal nerve and blood supply, enabling the body to heal itself.  Osteopathic physicians look at the whole person, not just the part that is sick. They are concerned about the total you.  They may devote particular attention to one or more fields of specialty practice and recognize the need for utilizing qualified consultants for their professional expertise.
